Jennifer Love Hewitt Taps Her Scream Queen Notoriety for ID’s ‘A Killer Among Friends’ Docuseries

20 June 2025

The ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ star executive produces and narrates Investigation Discovery’s docu-series about six friend groups and six tales of murder, set to debut July 14.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is channeling Julie from I Know What You Did Last Summer — only this time in real life for Investigation Discovery’s new A Killer Among Friends true crime series.

Love Hewitt executive produces and narrates the new ID series.

“Sure, you can trust your friends, but I wouldn’t,” she warns at one point in the trailer. The six-parter, to debut July 14, follows six groups of friends, and six historical cases of murder and treachery among them.

“A Killer Among Friends offers a unique opportunity for me to draw from my own work as an actress, as we blend together a kaleidoscope of perspectives to tell each of these tragedies that deeply impact group dynamics and shatter beliefs,” Love Hewitt, who has turned to film producing in recent years, added in a statement.

The trailer is full of dramatic recreations and interview clips with interconnected friends who recall with regret, grief and even shock their cases of deceit, jealousy and violence that they got caught up in.

The first episode, Killer on Campus, centers on the 1994 shooting and death of college football player Trent DiGiuro on his 21st birthday while celebrating with college buddies. Despite witnesses to the murder, no killer was immediately identified and fears on campus grew that the killer might be among DiGiuro’s friends and could return to strike again.

Episodes to follow include a high school theater troupe fearing the 2013 killer of Jessie Blodgett, a lead in a Fiddler on the Roof production, may be within their inner circle; and a California town where the 1995 disappearance and subsequent murder of a 15 year-old Elyse Pahler prompted suspicion among classmates.

Other episodes tackle the 1997 kidnapping and murder of Maryann Measles, where suspicions pointed to her own circle of friends; and the 2010 killing of Michele Carson in Las Vegas while she was on a fun getaway with best friends.

Suspicions among interconnected friends also figure in an episode around the 1990 death of Ron Baker in a train tunnel connected to the notorious Charles Manson murders.

A Killer Among Friends is produced by Bunim-Murray Productions for Investigation Discovery.

Love Hewitt shares executive producer credits with Julie Pizzi, Jesse Daniels, Farnaz Farjam and Elissa Halperin.

Jennifer Love Hewitt to Narrate ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Docuseries ‘They Know What They Did’

17 May 2025

I Know What You Did Last Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt will narrate and executive produce They Know What They Did, a docuseries exploring a group of interconnected individuals haunted by a murder from their past.

Blending a kaleidoscope of perspectives, each episode charts the journey to confront what really happened, revealing secrets and uncovering the truth. The stories unfold through first-person accounts of friends, family, locals, journalists and law enforcement.

The show will premiere this summer on Investigation Discovery and HBO Max, likely coinciding with the release of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer on July 18.

Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles from the 1997 slasher in the legacy sequel alongside Madelyn Cline (“Outer Banks”), Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid), Tyriq Withers (Him), and Sarah Pidgeon (“The Wilds”).

When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer… and is hell-bent on revenge.

As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) directs from a script she co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky, based on a story by Robinson and Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.).

Happy 45th Birthday Jennifer!

21 February 2024

We here at Jennifer Love Hewitt Source, your longest source for Jennifer Love Hewitt on the web since 2019, would like to wish Ms. Love Hewitt a happy and healthy 45(!) birthday. Wait, how is she 45 when she looks like she’s still looks so young?! I can’t believe I’ve had this site on her since 2019 and has been in the works as early as my dialup days in 2007 but we can’t wait for her upcoming projects which include (hopefully) I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot with Freddie Prinze and her return to 9-1-1 on ABC starting March 14th!

Jennifer Love Hewitt Pitches Ghost Whisperer Reboot: ‘It Was One of My Favorite Jobs’

06 December 2023

Jennifer Love Hewitt has her hands full these days as dispatch queen Maddie Buckley on ABC’s 9-1-1, but if the opportunity for a return trip to Grandview were to present itself, she’d be on a plane ASAP.

Hewitt is the latest guest on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, during which the host asks if she’d be interested in rebooting Party of Five (which already happened on Freeform a few years ago, but let’s not tell him).

“No, I would do Ghost Whisperer,” Hewitt replies without a moment’s hesitation. “It was one of my favorite jobs. Melinda Gordon was hands down one of my favorite characters I’ve ever played, if not my favorite. I would love to do it.”

Ghost Whisperer, which aired for five seasons on CBS (2005–2009) starred Hewitt as Melinda, an antique store owner with the ability to speak to the dead — whether she liked it or not. The show’s cast also included Aisha Tyler, David Conrad, Camryn Manheim, Jay Mohr, Christoph Sanders and Jamie Kennedy. The fifth and final season jumped five years forward in time, introducing the son of Melinda (Hewitt) and Jim (Conrad).

Screencaptures of the interview will be added in the next coming days.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Shows Off New Tattoos Including 3 Butterflies in Honor of Her Kids

17 April 2023

Jennifer Love Hewitt is honoring her three children with some permanent artwork.

The Party of Five alum showed off some new butterfly tattoos “for her kids” on her Instagram Tuesday in a shared post with the artist, Victoria Do — who also gave the actress some “finger adornments.”

The photos showed three butterflies placed on Hewitt’s upper left arm in black ink with fine, detailed lines, while the additional array of tiny tattoos revealed on her fingers accented her diamond ring, gold jewelry and purple hombre nail art.

The actress shares Autumn James, 9, Atticus James, 7, and Aidan James, 1½, with her husband Brian Hallisay, who she met on the Lifetime show The Client List.

The mom of three just turned 44 on Feb. 21 and commemorated her special day with a makeup-free selfie. “Woke up at 4am and was 44!” the 9-1-1 star wrote alongside her photo.

“I am deeply grateful, blessed, happy, sometimes insecure about aging, a mom of three incredible babies, married to the most handsome and awesome man, and really excited to see what this year has for us,” Hewitt shared.

The TV and film actress also thanked her mom (who died in 2012 from cancer) for giving her life and shared how much she missed her before talking about her own son Atticus surprising her with a song. “Atticus got up way too early and sang me happy birthday! My heart melted. Now go have a great day everyone,” she said. “It’s my birthday you have to do it! ❤️”

Back in May 2021, the proud mother announced news of a third baby on the way exclusively with PEOPLE, ahead of Aidan’s September birth.

“We had always been open to a third, but definitely didn’t think in the crazy year that the entire world was having that it would necessarily be this moment,” she shared. “I feel like we’ve been able to so far raise two really special kids who will be great role models.”

“This has been such a pleasant, beautiful, surprising gift in this time to be able to get to do all that again with another little human,” she continued to PEOPLE of son Aidan.

Hewitt added that she loves “the experience” of being pregnant, though she said that her third baby would likely be her last: “I’m pretty sure. I don’t think I could do another one. I think five is a great number.”

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Sequel In Works At Sony With Jennifer Kaytin Robinson Directing; Jennifer Love Hewitt And Freddie Prinze Jr. In Talks To Return

07 February 2023

EXCLUSIVE: Following the successful relaunch of Scream, Sony Pictures is looking to blow new life in to its own slasher franchise as sources tell Deadline that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has been tapped to direct a sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr in talks to reprise their roles. Insiders say the project is in early development and that Neal H. Moritz is in talks to return as producer, with Leah McKendrick on board to write the script.

Sony had no comment on the project.

The original pic follows four young friends bound by a tragic accident who are reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town. The original was a hit and not only led to a sequel but also helped launch the careers of Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe. Plot details for this latest installment are unknown.

While McKendrick is penning the pic, the idea for the new film came from Robinson and McKendrick, who blew away studio execs when they pitched this idea for a sequel last fall, especially given the recent success of the Scream franchise. That film was recently relaunched with original cast members returning, and the idea of bringing back original castmembers to draw in old-school fans while also adding fresh faces to relaunch the series was too good for the studio to pass up. Another big factor was the recent success of Robinson’s Netflix pic Do Revenge, which was lauded for its throwbacks to late-’90s pics like Cruel Intentions and was something execs knew Robinson could tap into when developing the new story.

Sony also saw it important to not reboot the franchise but do a sort of “passing of the torch”-type sequel where original castmembers are brought back as a new generation cast members are added to the ensemble, similar to films like Scream or Creed. Once the idea was pitched by Robinson and McKendrick, the next step was getting Hewitt and Prinze back on board, which the two were game for after hearing the pitch.

For Robinson, Do Revenge was her most recent directing outing and earned her high marks for a first-time filmmaker. Prior to that, she was a writer on Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder and was a consulting producer on Hawkeye.

Outside the Marvel universe, Robinson also penned Unpregnant for HBO Max, and her directing debut for Netflix was Someone Great. She is repped by CAA and Gotham Group.

McKendrick wrote, produced and co-starred in the vigilante thriller M.F.A. alongside Francesca Eastwood, which premiered at SXSW. Leah’s rom-com feature Voicemails For Isabelle was preempted by Sony and landed her on The Black List in 2019. She is repped by UTA, Kaplan Perrone and VanderKloot Law.

Next up for her Scrambled, which stars McKendrick as Nellie Robinson, a broke, single 34-year-old, fresh off a breakup, who faces down an existential crisis when she decides to freeze her eggs. McKendrick wrote the script following her own egg-retrieval experience last year. The film will make its world premiere at this years SXSW festival.

Hewitt and Prinze are repped by Gersh. Hewitt is also repped by Vault Entertainment and Prinze by Brillstein Entertainment.

Love Hewitt’s Husband Almost Became a Criminal to Protect Her

01 May 2022

In Hollywood, there are a lot of actors who seem to be all about the glitz and glamor. For example, some stars always seem to show up on lists of the best dressed since they have a whole team of prepare who make sure that they look perfect whenever they go out. On the other hand, even though Jennifer Love Hewitt always looks fantastic when she is at a major event, there is something about her that has always made her seem like a regular person.

Since she has never seemed like she takes herself overly seriously, Jennifer Love Hewitt has been the perfect person to expose the problem with Hollywood. Amazingly enough, Love Hewitt’s husband also exposed a problem with society when he tried to protect her at one point but in doing so, he almost became a criminal.

Who is Brian Hallisay?

Because Jennifer Love Hewitt has been famous since she was quite young, she has taken part in countless interviews during her life. Depending on the nature of the questions she has been asked, Hewitt’s interviews have varied between being amusing and revealing. However, no matter what kind of questions she has been asked, one thing has remained constant about Hewitt’s interview, she comes across as a caring person that people would enjoy being around.

Due to the way that people have always perceived Jennifer Love Hewitt, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that she has dated several notable people over the years. For example, Love Hewitt has been linked to Alec Baldwin, Fred Savage, Joey Lawrence, Will Friedle, Carson Daly, Andrew Keegan, John Mayer, John Cusack, and Jamie Kennedy among others. Despite all the famous people that have been on Hewitt’s arm, she wound up marrying someone a lot less known.

Before he married Jennifer Love Hewitt in 2013, Brian Hallisay was her co-worker as he had a starring role in her drama series The Client List. Since then, Hallisay went on to have notable roles in shows like Revenge and 9-1-1. Hallisay also has shown up in a handful of films during his career including Hostel: Part III and American Sniper.

How Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Husband Almost Became a Criminal?

No matter how much everyone wants to find it, love can be far too elusive in life. As a result, when people find someone to love, whether that means romantically or otherwise, wanting to protect them is only natural. In 2013, Brian Hallisay and his soon-to-be wife at the time Jennifer Love Hewitt were out together one night when he suddenly felt the need to protect the woman he loved.

According to TMZ, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brian Hallisay were out for dinner only to discover that a paparazzo was waiting for them when they left the restaurant. Of course, anyone should be able to understand that suddenly having a cameraman rush up to them and take photos without permission could be very upsetting. As a result, it makes sense that Hallisay asked the paparazzo to leave him and his fiancée alone. Over the years, Jennifer Love Hewitt has been willing to admit that she hated being famous at times in her life. Despite that, she has a history of dealing with the paparazzi in the best ways possible. For example, when a paparazzo was taking pictures of her at a birthday party, Love Hewitt laughed and held up a paper where she wrote something advertising The Client List. When Brian Hallisay saw a paparazzo bothering Love Hewitt in 2013, however, he clearly wanted to protect her and decided to handle things very differently.

Once the paparazzo who was snapping photos of Jennifer Love Hewitt without permission refused to stop, things got physical when Brian Hallisay attempted to force him to leave. In the resulting scuffle, the cameraman claims he was hit in the face near his eye with his camera. Evidently mortified by the situation, Love Hewitt intervened and gave the paparazzo permission to take photos of her in an attempt to make things right.

Even though Jennifer Love Hewitt tried to calm things down, Brian Hallisay’s incident with a paparazzo still had consequences. The reason for that is that the paparazzo reported the incident to the police and an investigation into Hallisay’s actions was opened. Fortunately for him, even though the paparazzo was willing to press charges against Hallisay, he never suffered any legal consequences. On top of not getting into any legal trouble for the incident with the paparazzo, Brian Hallisay’s personal life didn’t seem to miss a beat either. After all, Hallisay and Jennifer Love Hewitt went on to get married and they even have three children together as of the time of this writing.

Jennifer is Pregnant with Baby No. 3!

18 May 2021

Jennifer Love Hewitt is about to have a party of five!

The 9-1-1 actress is pregnant, expecting her third baby with husband Brian Hallisay, she reveals exclusively with PEOPLE. Hewitt — who is also mom to son Atticus James, 5½, and daughter Autumn James, 7 — says the news comes as a welcome surprise.

“We had always been open to a third, but definitely didn’t think in the crazy year that the entire world was having that it would necessarily be this moment,” says Hewitt, 42, adding, “I feel like we’ve been able to so far raise two really special kids who will be great role models. This has been such a pleasant, beautiful, surprising gift in this time to be able to get to do all that again with another little human.”

Hewitt’s two kids may be more excited than her about welcoming a new member to the family — so much so that Atticus even guessed that Mom was pregnant before she even knew.

“One night, my kids and I were laying in bed watching TV and a Clearblue commercial came on television. My son out of nowhere was like, ‘Hey Mommy, you should order one of those in case there’s a baby in your belly,’ ” she recalls. “I was like, ‘How rude! I just ate a big dinner. What is he talking about?’ It stuck with me, and they’ve been asking off and on for a year or so for a sibling. We weren’t closed off to the idea, it just wasn’t something that we were actively thinking about.”

“Sure enough,” says Hewitt, the pregnancy test clearly confirmed that she was expecting after she humored her son and took a test.

“I was like, ‘Wow, this is really interesting that he put it out there in the universe and there it was.’ I had used Clear Blue tests before, and it was just really funny that he saw that commercial and said that out loud,” says Hewitt, adding that Atticus and Autumn were both “so excited.”

Hewitt adds that she’s “proud” of herself for keeping her pregnancy a secret until now — even while playing a pregnant woman, Maddie, on screen and simulating an “intense” labor and birth on Fox’s 9-1-1, which was recently renewed for another season.

“Because my kids are a little bit older, it was a good reminder of being back in that space again. And [costar Kenneth Choi] was like, ‘See? Playing pregnant got you pregnant!’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I guess so,’ ” says Hewitt. “The craziest, most surreal moment was having to give birth while being pregnant. That was very interesting.”

“And it was definitely a nauseous day for me. So that came with its own challenges, but it was a good recall back to those beautiful, amazing moments that you feel really excited about,” she adds of filming the delivery scene. “I got to remind myself of that and then also be in a really excited place of knowing that I will get to do that again.”

When it comes time to give birth IRL again, the Ghost Whisperer alum says she’ll be grateful to have her husband in the delivery room.

“During labor, he’s like a rock, solid,” she says of Hallisay, whom she wed in November 2013. “You would never know if he was panicked, or worried or stressed or anything — he’s just really good. The only thing about him and labor that really makes me laugh is that he eats a lot of snacks. Usually in my hospital bag it is like an outfit for me and outfit for the baby, and then snacks for Brian!”

And while Hewitt says she loves “the experience” of being pregnant, baby No. 3 will likely be her last: “I’m pretty sure. I don’t think I could do another one. I think five is a great number.”
